Someone asked me to describe you and without hesitation, I said 'Colorful!''
When I first met you, you were in a group but everyone else was blurred, and only your stature was highlighted, So bright and yellow. You stared at me with deep curiosity and at that exact moment, I felt known, really seen. Your bright smile grew wider with every word that I let out, and your glistening eyes prompted me to say more. In hindsight, this was once in a lifetime kind of moment. It is not always that you meet someone's eyes and it feels like everything else has stopped, the earth has stopped rotating, the people around have stopped talking and it is just me and you. a soul-meeting moment, where the mutuality of the connection is known. With age and experience, I have learned that is not love, yes it is special, and yes, some humans just go well together, it just fits, it feels almost ethereal, magical, a thing of soul-mates. Only if we could have chosen each other and explored the potential magic our unity could bring.
When I was closer to you, I saw what was beautiful in me, not what others could see with their naked eyes but something that one needed to dig deep for, and you sure did dig. I think we were similar in our imagination, how we saw the world, and how we molded the words in our hearts. Our souls spoke to each other so fluently, that they completed each other's unfinished sentences. In my writing, you saw yourself, how you could have exactly said it like that but did not have the words and in your photography, I saw the point of focus I would have wanted to capture but did not have the right skills to angle it the way you did therefore, I wrote stories about your photography, stories that deeply spoke to you and that is how we found a way for our souls to communicate------Amu Mhlaba
